An invocation for your dreams
Here’s Your Creative Burst: Make a Dream Plan
Find a quiet place. Consider lying down. Listen to Max Richter’s Dream 1 below and make a plan for what you will dream the next time you fall asleep.
You can write it in list form, a paragraph, or turn it into a little poem. Here are some optional lines to follow:
Tonight, I will float above…
In my dream, I will visit a room filled with…
I will talk to…about...
My dream will be made from scraps of…
In my dream, I will find a… that turns into a…
I will save…
I will forget…
When I wake, I will remember…
Don’t worry about logic or coherence. Think of it like making a plan for a trip you may or may not take, and your suitcase is packed with fog.
The Sources
I saw photos from Max Richter’s SLEEP concert in London a few weeks ago
which made me think of public resting events hosted by Tricia Hersey of the Nap Ministry: “We facilitate immersive workshops and curate performance art that examines rest as a radical tool for community healing. We believe rest is a form of resistance and name sleep deprivation as a racial and social justice issue.”

Tricia Hersey’s books are transformative. She offers an alternative to grind culture by insisting on rest, creativity, and connection. Hersey is one of my favorite voices of resistance and reason on social media. Recently, she wrote, “Daydreaming is a tool for liberation,” and it’s become my guiding principle as DISCO heads back into Birmingham schools to teach poetry and writing.
Happy dreaming! Thanks for reading and for following Creative Bursts! I always love hearing how it goes for you.
